Tuesday 13th December 2022
School is closed today.
Nativity Performances
Our performances will go ahead tomorrow at 10.00 am and 2.00 pm. We will have an additional performance on Thursday at 10.00 am. If you were signed up to see the performance today, please come to one of the other performances.
Due to the space in the hall and the number of chairs available, please can no more than two adults per child attend ONE performance only.
Today!
This week, our rhyme is 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Please can the children watch the link to the rhyme and create a starry picture. They can bring their picture into school tomorrow, if they would like.
Have a great day and see you tomorrow!
Mrs James and Miss Herbert

School is closed today.
We thought that you could send us some snowy photos of any fun snow activities you get up to today, such as making a snowman, sledging or a snow-themed craft activity and we will either share them to the class page or in class this week.
Look out for any animal tracks in the snow and tell us about them in class.
Here is a snow-themed story you might like to listen to -
The Very Snowy Christmas - CBeebies - BBC
You could draw a picture of something in the story - perhaps one of the mice or the Christmas tree?
Here too is a link to a phonics game which practises blending the sounds we have learnt so far -
Pick A Picture (phonicsplay.co.uk)
and a simple counting game.
'Count the Yeti 1 to 10' (themathsfactor.com)
Don't forget to practise your nativity songs and lines!
Happy Snow Day! Stay warm!
Mrs James and Miss Herbert
A warm welcome to the 'Early Years' class page!
In RJ, Mrs James is the class teacher and in RH the class teacher is Miss Herbert.
Your child will also be supported by Mrs Clements, Miss Kay, Mrs Butler and Mrs Fleming. Mrs Stephens, Mrs Al-Astrabadi and Miss Hale will cover the teachers when they are out of class.
Your child's 'Show and Tell' / Reading Day is posted outside the classroom - books will be changed once per week and we will give out information about what to prepare for 'Show and Tell' in the weekly newsletter.
Each week, we will upload the Reception newsletter to the website along with any other information you might need. Please check the class page regularly for updates.
Please email me if you have any questions or concerns - cjames@bhcps.efspt.org.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Show and Tell
After the Christmas break, please can the children share their holiday news with us. They can bring in a photograph or drawing if they would like (photographs can also be emailed to the teachers).
Nativity Costumes
If you haven’t already sent these in, please do so as soon as possible. Please can you put them in a carrier bag, labelled with your child’s name. Talk to your child’s teacher if you need us to provide a costume. Thank you.
Nativity Performances – Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th December
We will be performing our Christmas Show on Tuesday 13th December and Wednesday 14th December. Reception and Year One will be performing together and there will be two performances per day, at 10.00 am and 2.00pm. Two adults per child will be able to attend one of the performances. Parents are asked to sign up for the performance they wish to attend – please see the sign-up sheets which are posted outside the classroom doors. Once the slots for a performance are filled, parents will need to choose a different performance time in order to accommodate parents from Reception and Year One in the hall.
Reading Books
Please can you ensure that your child’s book is in their bag on their reading day, which is posted on the door and is also the same as their ‘Show and Tell’ Day. It is really important that they have their book with them on this day. Please initial or make a comment in their reading diary so that we know they have shared their book with you at home. We may only be able to change the books next week due to the Nativity performances, rather than reading with each child.
Phonics
We have now covered the sounds s/a/t/p/i/n/m/d/g/o/c/k/ck/e/u/r/h/b/f/l/ll/ff/ss and are learning how to blend them to make words, e.g. in, at, tap, pat, sat, pit. Please practise these sounds at home, pointing them out in story books or finding objects around the house beginning with those sounds. Next week, we are going to re-cap the sounds we have covered so far.
Christmas Party - Friday 16th December
We will have a little Christmas Party on the last day, so your child can wear non-uniform on the last day. Please remember that their clothes still need to be appropriate for the weather and for being in the playground for an extended period at lunch time.
Please also remember that school closes at 2.00pm next Friday.
Dates for your diary
Nativity Shows – Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th November
Last day of Autumn term – Friday 16th December, 2.00pm finish

Reception Newsletter - Thursday 13th October
Dear Parents/Carers,
Thank you to the parents who came to the curriculum/reading meeting on Tuesday morning. It has come to our attention that some parents may not have received the newsletters via ParentMail so, if you were not aware that there was a meeting and would like us to hold another one, please can you let your class teacher know and we will organise it for after the half term break.
Please note that the Reception newsletters are posted on the school website every Thursday.
Buckhurst Hill Community Primary School - Home (greenhousecms.co.uk)
Our page is in the 'Learning' section.
Show and Tell
Next week, our activities will be based on the rhyme ‘The Grand Old Duke of York’. For ‘Show and Tell’, please can the children learn the rhyme, if they don’t already know it. They can also bring in something related to the rhyme (perhaps you have a nursery rhyme book with the rhyme inside?) or they can draw a picture to show, if they would like.

Please can you ensure that your child’s book is in their bag on their reading day, which is posted on the door and is also the same as their ‘Show and Tell’ Day.
Parent Consultation Evenings – Tuesday 18th October and Wednesday 19th October, 3.30-6.30pm.
Thanks to those who have already requested an appointment. The appointment times are posted outside the classroom doors and have also been put in your child’s bag. Please speak to your class teacher if you need to alter the time given or haven’t made an appointment. We look forward to seeing you then!
Labelling Clothes
Please, please label your child’s clothing so that we can identify items which have been left in the lunch hall, playground and anywhere else! Please also check that the cardigans, jumpers and coats that you have at home are not labelled with another child’s name, so that we can return them to their rightful owner and hopefully locate your child’s missing item. We are talking to the children every day about looking after their things; at the end of lunchtime there is a sea of identical cardigans, jumpers and coats with no names to try and match with their owner! Thank you.
Snack Money
We ask for a voluntary donation of £5 per half-term to purchase additional snack items such as rice cakes, breadsticks and biscuits and to contribute to classroom activities, such as cooking, or additional items such as spare pants or special craft materials. Please put the donation in an envelope and give to the class teacher or put in your child’s book bag. Thank you to those who have already made the contribution.
Wellies
We plan to go on our first welly walk tomorrow, so please bring in a spare pair of wellies, if you haven’t already, labelled with your child’s name. If you do not have any wellies, we have some spares, so don’t worry!
PE Kits
PE will begin properly after the half term break, but feel free to bring the children’s PE kits as soon as you have them and they can remain on their pegs. Everything needs to be labelled with their name to prevent items from going missing.
Dates for your diary
Parent Consultation Evenings – Tuesday 18th October and Wednesday 19th October, 3.30-6.30pm.
Monday 24th October – Friday 28th October – Half term break

Reception Newsletter - 6th October 2022
Dear Parents/Carers,
The children have had a great week, completing some lovely ‘Humpty Dumpty’ crafts, building walls in the outside area and starting their phonics work.
Show and Tell
Next week, our activities will be based on the rhyme ‘Jack and Jill’. For ‘Show and Tell’, please can the children learn the rhyme, if they don’t already know it. They can also bring in something related to the rhyme (perhaps you have a nursery rhyme book with the rhyme inside?) or they can draw a picture to show, if they would like.

Early Years Curriculum Meeting for parents – Tuesday 11th October, 9.00 am.
Parents are invited to attend a meeting straight after the morning drop-off on Tuesday 11th October. This is to tell you a little about the school day and the Early Years curriculum, particularly about the way that we approach reading in the Early Years. This will also give you the opportunity to ask us any questions you may have.
Parent Consultation Evenings – Tuesday 18th October and Wednesday 19th October, 3.30-6.30pm.
Thanks to those who have already requested an appointment. We will let you know the time of the appointment w/c 10th October 2022, once all requests have been received. We allocate times on a first-come, first-served basis, whilst also trying to fit appointment times around those of siblings higher up the school. If none of the times are suitable, please speak to your child’s teacher. We will post the appointment times outside the classrooms next week and you will also receive an appointment slip in your child’s bag.
Year 6 Buddies
The Year Six children are already aware of their little buddy’s name, so may have made themselves known to your child in the playground. However, we are having a proper ‘getting to know each other’ afternoon on Monday 10th October, so you may hear lots about them on Monday evening, if you haven’t already!
